Selected as the university to carry out the Innovative Human Resources Development project for Smart City in 2019 (from 2019 to 2023) by Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and Korea Agency for Infrastructure Technology Advancement (KAIA), Seoul National University plans to carry forward the training of core professionals necessary for industrial revitalization and expansion to the overseas market with the specialized education program reflecting the need of the smart city industry. In order to train the core professionals, we have newly set up the Smart City Engineering Program in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering and enhanced the linkage with the undergraduate courses by utilizing diversity of the participating professors of seven Departments (Dept. of the Civil and Environmental Engineering, Dept. of the Computer Science and Engineering, Dept. of the Architecture and Architectural Engineering, etc.). *The number of participating professors will be increased in the future.

i-STICK is a research organization in the College of Engineering at Seoul National University that conducts researches in ICT policy area.
Our research team focuses on studying the areas emerging from or expanding due to the advancements in digital technologies and the rapidly changing ecosystem of smart technologies and information..
Furthermore, we strive to incorporate both technology and humanism in our ‘human-centered’ approaches, and thereby lead the way to ‘smarter’ intellectual culture.

The I-STICK lab examines advanced understandings, values, issues, and practices in the field of convergence engineering, and their practical implications for future evolutions and prospects in the field.
More specifically, we analyze how current engineering systems and practices we see today have evolved through the various stages of industrial revolutions and their technical and social innovations.
Furthermore, we explore how these technological innovations might interact with current social changes in digital convergence (such as Smart Cities, AI, Robotics, VR, Blockchain, Internet of Things, Smart Technologies, Platform Services etc) that have emerged from various engineering implementations and commercialization processes. We also aims to dive deeper into emerging problems and challenges for current leaders and professionals in the field of convergence engineering systems and businesses in global society.
